Overview
Phlegm bound with Heat. Substantial in the Lung; non-substantial when it harasses the Heart or rises as dizziness.
Differentiate from
- Damp-Phlegm (white easy sputum, no thirst, pale tongue)
- Dry-Phlegm (scanty hard sputum, dry tongue)
- pure Fire (no greasy coat, no rattling)
Etiology
Diet of rich, hot food and alcohol; Heat condensing Fluids; constraint turning to Fire and cooking Fluids into Phlegm.
Treatment Principle
Clear Heat; transform Phlegm; descend Qi if the Lung is full.
Representative formulas. Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan; Wen Dan Tang; Gun Tan Wan in severe excess.
