The Spleen makes Phlegm; the Lung stores it. Chronic productive cough.
Differentiate from
- Phlegm-Heat (yellow sputum, fever, red tongue)
- Lung Qi xu (weak voice, little sputum)
- Cold-Phlegm (watery frothy, icy cold)
Etiology
Spleen Qi xu, dairy and sweet diet, damp climate, repeated colds leaving residual Phlegm.
Pathomechanism
Phlegm-Damp obstructs the Lung's descending function.
Treatment Principle
Dry Damp; transform Phlegm; restore the descent of Lung Qi; strengthen Spleen.
Representative formulas. Er Chen Tang; Liu Jun Zi Tang; San Zi Yang Qin Tang when Qi is rebellious.
