Overview

Exterior Cold binding the Lung’s diffusion and descent.

Differentiate from

  • Wind-Heat (sore throat, yellow sputum, rapid pulse)
  • Tai Yang Zhong Feng (sweat, moderate pulse)

Etiology

Exposure to wind and cold; wearing too little; air conditioning.

Pathomechanism

Wind-Cold fetters the exterior and impairs the Lung's dispersing/descending of Qi.

Treatment Principle

Release the exterior; scatter Cold; descend Lung Qi.

Representative formulas. Ma Huang Tang; Xing Su San; Xiao Qing Long Tang if thin fluids are already congested.

Representative points. LU-7, BL-12, GB-20, LI-4, DU-16.
