Location

On the palm, at the midpoint of the first metacarpal bone, on the border between the red and white flesh of the thenar eminence.

How to locate: Halfway along the thumb-side edge of the palm, where the pale palmar skin meets the darker skin of the back of the hand.

Needling

Depth: 0.5–0.8 cun
Angle: Perpendicular

Functions

  • Clears Lung heat and benefits the throat
  • Descends rebellious qi
  • Cools blood and stops bleeding

Indications

Sore, swollen or painful throatloss of voicecough with bloodfeverfeverish sensation in the palmschildhood malnutrition patterns

Clinical Notes

The Fire point of the Lung and the principal distal point for acute heat in the throat. Sensitive to needle — expect a strong sensation.
