Ying-Spring point of the Lung; clears Lung heat and benefits the throat.
Hand in a loose fist, palm up: at the midpoint of the first metacarpal on its radial side, where the pale palmar skin meets the darker dorsal skin, in the hollow proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint. Insert perpendicularly 0.3–0.5 cun through abductor pollicis brevis into opponens pollicis and flexor pollicis brevis, seeking a local distended feeling.

Ying-Spring point of the Triple Energiser; clears heat and benefits the throat and head.
Loose fist, palm down: on the back of the hand at the margin of the web between the ring and little fingers, where the dorsal and palmar skin meet. Insert perpendicularly 0.3–0.5 cun through the connecting band between the extensor digitorum tendons to the fourth and fifth fingers, down to the dorsal interossei near the branches of the ulnar nerve. A local aching distension that spreads over the back of the hand is sought.
Treatment Principle
Descend Lung qi and relieve a sore throat; release the exterior and clear heat.

Method
Two shallow points on the hand, each needled perpendicularly 0.3–0.5 cun. The book gives no retention time or moxibustion instructions for this pair.
About
A pair of hand points — one on the thenar border, one in the web of the fourth and fifth fingers — for an acutely swollen, painful throat and for headache and intermittent (malarial) fevers.
Rationale
Both are Ying-Spring points, the category classically used to clear heat. LU10 (the Fire point of the Lung) clears heat from the Lung and throat and descends its qi; TE2 clears heat carried upward along the Triple Energiser channel to the throat and head. Combining a yin and a yang channel's Spring points covers heat from within and from the exterior.
