Overview
Heat agitating the Blood so that it leaves the vessels or surfaces on the skin.
Differentiate from
- Blood Stasis bleeding (dark clots, fixed pain, purple tongue)
- Spleen not Holding Blood (pale blood, fatigue, pale tongue)
- empty Heat from Yin xu (night heat, peeled tongue, thin rapid pulse)
Etiology
External Heat entering the Blood; Liver Fire; Heat from Yin xu (empty Blood heat is milder and nocturnal).
Treatment Principle
Cool the Blood; stop bleeding; clear Heat. Nourish Yin if the Heat is empty.
Representative formulas. Xi Jiao Di Huang Tang family (use Shui Niu Jiao, water buffalo horn — rhinoceros horn is banned); Qing Re Zhi Beng Tang; Jia Wei Xiao Yao San when Liver constraint has turned to Heat.
