阳明腑证 (Yáng Míng Fǔ)

Six Stages / Interior

Tongue

Dry, thick yellow or black coat

Pulse

Deep, full

Key Symptoms

Tidal afternoon feverConstipation; abdominal fullness worse with pressureDelirium possible

Overview

Heat binding with dry stool in the Intestines. Shang Han interior organ-form — not an exterior pattern.

Relationship to Heat in the Large Intestine. Same organ, different frame. Heat in the Large Intestine is the Zang-Fu name for dry bound stools with heat. Yang Ming Fu is the Shang Han name and requires the fu picture: tidal fever, worse-with-pressure fullness, and a deep excess pulse. Load both. Do not treat them as copies. Use Yang Ming Fu when the case is a febrile interior excess; use Heat in the Large Intestine when the case is chronic or Zang-Fu constipation-heat without a Shang Han course.

Differentiate from

  • Yang Ming Jing
  • Food Stagnation without high fever

Treatment Principle

Drain Heat; purge accumulation.
