Differentiate from
- Damp-Heat in the Large Intestine (burning, blood and mucus, yellow greasy coat)
- Spleen Qi xu alone (no irritability or wiry pulse)
Etiology
Constraint plus irregular diet; worry; the most common IBS picture.
Pathomechanism
Constrained Liver Qi invades and disrupts the Spleen's transport.
Treatment Principle
Soothe the Liver; strengthen the Spleen; regulate the bowels.
Representative formulas. Xiao Yao San; Tong Xie Yao Fang when pain-diarrhea is the main complaint; Si Ni San.
