The Liver fails to course and discharge. The most common pattern in clinic.
Differentiate from
- Liver Fire (full heat)
- Blood Stasis (fixed stabbing, purple)
- Liver Yang Rising (head-dominant, not chest-distension-dominant)
Etiology
Emotional constraint, frustration, lack of movement, irregular meals.
Pathomechanism
Constrained Liver Qi loses its free flow, causing stagnation and distension.
Treatment Principle
Soothe the Liver; move Qi; regulate the middle.
Representative formulas. Xiao Yao San; Chai Hu Shu Gan San; Yue Ju Wan.
