Description

Hu Po Duo Mei Wan (Succinum Pill for Promoting Sleep), from Systematic Great Compendium of Medicine Past and Present (1556).

Indications: Liver yang harassing the Heart characterized by forgetfulness, disorientation, insomnia, fright palpitations, or panicky throbbing

Usage: For forgetfulness, insomnia and fright palpitations when hyperactive Liver yang harasses the Heart; Succinum moves blood stasis and settles the souls while the horn clears Liver fire and extinguishes wind.

Preparation

Grind equal amounts into fine powder, form pills with honey and pig's blood, coat with gold foil, take with Junci Medulla (deng xin cao) decoction. Today pig's blood and gold foil are omitted and Naemorhedi Cornu (shan yang jiao) usually replaces Saigae tataricae Cornu.
