Overview

Liver Yang is not anchored. It may be excess from Fire and constraint, or mixed with Yin xu.

Differentiate from

  • Liver Fire (more bitter taste, dark urine, yellow coat, outburst)
  • Wind-Phlegm (greasy coat, severe spinning vertigo)

Etiology

Yin xu of Liver and Kidney; constraint; aging; overwork; hot diet.

Pathomechanism

Insufficient Yin fails to anchor the Liver Yang, which rises to the head.

Treatment Principle

Subdue Liver Yang; nourish Yin if it is deficient; settle the head.

Representative formulas. Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin; Zhen Gan Xi Feng Tang when Wind is already stirring.

Representative points. LIV-3, KI-3, GB-20, GB-43, SP-6, LIV-8.
