Indications: Deficiency consumption with a wiry, rapid, fine, and minute pulse, rough, dry and scaly skin, emaciation, inability to sustain strength by eating; possibly sweating on exertion, coughing, panting, inappropriate chills and fevers, many confused dreams, and seminal emissions
Pattern: Deficiency consumption with yin deficiency and blood stasis
Usage: Zhang Xi-Chun's formula for yin-deficient consumption (often tuberculosis), tonifying yin and qi while breaking up blood stasis; also for deficiency arising from stasis due to overwork, trauma, bleeding, or mistreatment.
