Points

  1. PC6 Neiguan one side

Confluent point of the Yin Wei Mai

  2. SP4 Gongsun opposite side

Confluent point of the Chong Mai

Treatment Principle

Open the Chong Mai and Yin Wei to settle the epigastrium, the chest and the heart.

Indications

Nausea and vomiting of any causeepigastric and abdominal painchest oppression and cardiac painpalpitations and anxietyirregular menstruation and dysmenorrhoeaa sensation of qi rushing upward from the abdomeninsomniahiccup

Method

PC6 on one side and SP4 on the other. Even technique; retain 20 to 30 minutes.

Needle order: PC6 (master) first, then SP4 (coupled).

⚠ Cautions

Chest pain of new onset needs medical assessment. PC6 is widely used for nausea in pregnancy and is not contraindicated there; SP4 should be used with more care.

About

The pairing most likely to be reached for in digestive and cardiac presentations, and the one with the strongest supporting evidence — PC6's antiemetic effect being among the best studied in the acupuncture literature.

Rationale

The Chong Mai rises from the lower abdomen through the chest and the Yin Wei links the yin channels; opened together they cover the whole midline interior from pelvis to throat. That range explains why one pairing serves nausea, period pain and palpitations alike.

Clinical Notes

Where nausea is the only complaint, PC6 alone is often enough. The full pairing earns its place when the epigastric, cardiac and gynaecological threads appear together, which is the classic Chong Mai picture.
