Description

Yang Yin Qing Fei Tang (Nourish the Yin and Clear the Lungs Decoction), from the Chong Lou Yu Yao, is used to nourish Lung-Yin; clear heat; relieve toxicity.

Presentation: 'white throat' from Lung/Kidney-Yin deficiency with epidemic heat-toxin; fever; dry nasal cavities; dry mouth; irritability; hoarse breathing; swollen, sore throat; white curd-like membrane in the throat, hard to scrape off; tongue: red with a dry, yellow coating; pulse: thready and rapid.

Syndrome: Syndrome of internal dryness.

Composition strategy:

  • Sweet, cold, moistening herbs nourish Lung and Kidney Yin; toxin-removing and swelling-dissipating herbs address epidemic heat-toxin.
  • Small dose of Bo He to expel the exogenous factor.

Energetics dose-weighted

The formula's overall nature, taste balance and channel reach, weighted by each herb's dose. Classical formulas often pair warm and cool herbs on purpose, so a net figure summarises the mix — it doesn't describe every herb in it.

Each entry reads as the larger formula written out: “+” adds its other catalogue cores, then the herbs none of them hold. A catalogue formula counts as a core only when at least 80% of its herbs are present, no more than 1 is absent, and the absent herb is not its chief.
