Description

Jia Jian Fu Mai Tang (Modified Restore the Pulse Decoction), from the Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Systematic Differentiation of Warm Disease) by Wu Ju-Tong — a variation of Zhi Gan Cao Tang.

Actions: Nourishes the blood; Astringes yin; Generates body fluids; Moistens dryness.

Presentation: After yangming fu excess heat has been cleared but interior deficiency persists: a deficient, big pulse with warm palms and soles (yin deficiency with possible deficiency heat).

Composition: Zhi Gan Cao Tang plus Bai Shao, minus Ren Shen, Da Zao, Sheng Jiang and Gui Zhi (to avoid generating heat).

Energetics dose-weighted

The formula's overall nature, taste balance and channel reach, weighted by each herb's dose. Classical formulas often pair warm and cool herbs on purpose, so a net figure summarises the mix — it doesn't describe every herb in it.

Formula family

Each entry reads as the larger formula written out: “+” adds its other catalogue cores, then the herbs none of them hold. A catalogue formula counts as a core only when at least 80% of its herbs are present, no more than 1 is absent, and the absent herb is not its chief.
