Description

Jiu Ji Xi Xian San (Urgent Powder to Dilute Saliva), from the Sheng Ji Zong Lu (General Collection for Holy Relief) by staff of court physicians.

Actions: Opens the sensory orifices; Dispels phlegm; Induces vomiting.

Presentation: Zhong feng (wind stroke) and bi zheng (closed disorder) syndrome: profuse amount of phlegm and saliva with a rattling sound in the throat, obstruction of qi circulation, a feeling of oppression, decreased muscle tone in the four limbs, altered consciousness or unconsciousness, deviation of the mouth, and a slippery, excess and forceful pulse. Also hou bi (painful obstruction of the throat).

Cautions:

  • For urgent acute phlegm/saliva accumulation only; afterwards treat the underlying cause with other formulas

Preparation

Grind into an extremely fine powder; take 1.5g with warm boiled water, up to 3g in severe cases; do not overdose (causes weakness and deficiency).
