Location

On the Achilles tendon, at the level of the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the midline of the tendon.

Needling

Depth: 0.5–1.0 cun, through the tendon
Angle: Perpendicular, passing through the Achilles tendon
⚠ Cautions: Needling through the tendon is uncomfortable; warn the patient. Avoid in patients with Achilles tendinopathy or on fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

  • Relieves pain and stiffness of the cervical spine
  • Relaxes the sinews of the whole spine

Clinical Notes

Needled with Zheng Zong and Zheng Shi as a three-needle Dao Ma. The single best-known Tung treatment for neck pain, usually with the patient rotating the neck during retention.
