Location

Five points on the palmar aspect of the thumb, on the radial side of the midline of the proximal phalanx, evenly spaced from the metacarpophalangeal crease to the interphalangeal crease. Numbered Wu Hu 1 to 5 from proximal to distal.

Needling

Depth: 2 fen
Angle: Perpendicular, shallow — usually one or two of the five, chosen by the affected region

Functions

  • Relieves pain of the extremities
  • Treats bone and joint pain throughout the body

Indications

Wu Hu 1 — pain of the fingers and hands; Wu Hu 2 — pain of the wrist; Wu Hu 3 — pain of the toes and feet; Wu Hu 4 — pain of the ankle and heel; Wu Hu 5 — pain of the heel and calcaneal spursplantar fasciitisrheumatoid arthritis of the small jointsgeneralised bone pain

Clinical Notes

A graded five-point series in which each point corresponds to a different part of the extremities. Wu Hu 1 for the hands and Wu Hu 5 for the heel are the most used; Wu Hu 5 is one of the most reliable points in the system for plantar fasciitis.
