Location

On the sole of the foot, in the depression that appears when the foot is plantar-flexed, at the junction of the anterior third and posterior two-thirds of the sole.

How to locate: Curl the toes; a clear hollow forms in the front third of the sole.

Needling

  • Pregnancy
Depth: 0.3–0.5 cun
Angle: Perpendicular
⚠ Cautions: Intensely sensitive — warn the patient. Contraindicated in pregnancy.

Clinical Notes

The lowest point on the body and the strongest descending point in the repertoire. Applying herbs or moxa here to draw fire downward is a classical technique for hypertension and insomnia.
