Meeting point of the Gallbladder and Bladder channels

Location

On the buttock, at the junction of the lateral third and medial two-thirds of the line connecting the prominence of the greater trochanter and the sacral hiatus, with the patient side-lying and the hip flexed.

How to locate: Position the patient on their side with the upper leg flexed at hip and knee; the point lies in the deep depression behind the greater trochanter.

Needling

Depth: 1.5–3.0 cun
Angle: Perpendicular
⚠ Cautions: The sciatic nerve lies beneath. A brief radiating sensation to the foot is the classical arrival of qi; do not manipulate repeatedly to reproduce it.

Functions

  • Activates the channel and relieves sciatic pain
  • Expels wind and damp from the hip and leg
  • Benefits the hip joint

Indications

Sciatica — the primary pointhip pain and osteoarthritis of the hiplow back pain radiating to the leghemiplegia and paralysis of the lower limbnumbness and weakness of the legurticaria

Clinical Notes

The single most important point for sciatica and hip pain; needled deeply, usually with GB34 and BL40.
