# Licence: 3D anatomy models (`skin.glb`, `bone.glb`, `hazard.glb`) These three files are **adapted from BodyParts3D** and are licensed under the **Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International** licence (CC BY 4.0), . ## Attribution > BodyParts3D, © The Database Center for Life Science licensed under CC Attribution 4.0 International That is the wording the licensor asks for. Each file also carries it in its glTF `asset.copyright` field, and the viewer shows it beside the model and in the text alternative. - Title: BodyParts3D, Release 4.0 (2013), `part_of` polygon data (`partof_BP3D_4.0_obj_99.zip`, sha256 `9fbc713fffeee924a5a657d9813d84d7eb957bded63adb854931dd5e3eb61c97`) - Author / licensor: The Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS), Research Organization of Information and Systems, Japan - Source: ## Which licence applies: the sources disagree The upstream sources do not all say the same thing, so both readings are recorded here. | Source | Fetched | Says | | --- | --- | --- | | Licence page, ("Last updated: 2025/02/27") | 2026-10-10 | **CC BY 4.0**, with the credit line quoted above | | `README_e.html` §3 License ("Last updated: 2025/02/25") | 2026-10-10 | CC BY 4.0, with the same credit line. Its "summary" link, however, still points to the CC BY-SA 2.1 JP deed. | | Header comment in every OBJ in the 2013 archive | 2026-10-10 | "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.1 Japan" | **CC BY 4.0 governs.** The OBJ headers do not name a licence on their own authority: they refer the reader to `http://dbarchive.biosciencedbc.jp/en/bodyparts3d/lic.html` for the licence, and that page now specifies CC BY 4.0 for the same Release 4.0 data. Creative Commons licences are non-exclusive, so the licensor's later, more permissive grant is available to us alongside the older one. If you use data from > this database, please be sure attribute this database as follows: > "BodyParts3D, © The Database Center for Life Science licensed under CC > Attribution 4.0 International". We follow the licensor's current licence page, **CC BY 4.0**. Under the older **CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan** terms in the OBJ headers, commercial use and adaptation are also permitted. The only difference would be share-alike: these three adapted files would then have to be offered under BY-SA. Nothing else on this site is an adaptation of the meshes, so share-alike would not reach the site's code or its point data in either reading. ## Changes made (CC BY 4.0 §3(a)(1)(B)) Produced by `phoenix/tools/anatomy3d/` (`select.mjs`, `build.mjs`). The `manifest.json` beside these files records the exact inputs, tool versions, arguments and output hashes. - **Subset.** Only the elements listed in `tools/anatomy3d/structures.json`: - `skin.glb`: the skin (FMA7163). - `bone.glb`: 216 elements, i.e. the bones, the sternum parts and the costal cartilages. - `hazard.glb`: trachea, common carotid, femoral and radial arteries, eyeball sclera and cornea, and medulla oblongata. - **Cleaned.** Disconnected fragments of fewer than 8 triangles were removed (stray triangles in the source). In this build that was 144 triangles from the skin, 3,341 from 139 bone elements and 816 from 8 hazard elements. The per-element counts are in `manifest.json` (`dropped_fragment_triangles`). - **Re-oriented and rescaled.** Millimetres became metres, and the model was turned from Z-up to Y-up with the anterior surface facing +Z. - **Simplified, quantized and compressed** with gltfpack (meshopt). Simplification ratios: skin 0.2, bone 0.25, hazard 0.3. - **Recoloured.** Flat per-layer materials replace the original colours. ## Not covered by this licence The acupuncture point positions drawn on the model (`phoenix/priv/anatomy/points_3d.exs`) and the viewer's code are Verscienta's own work. They are not adaptations of these meshes.
