Location

On the lower back, in the depression about 3.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of L4.

How to locate: With the patient prone, find the spinous process of L4 on the line joining the highest points of the iliac crests; measure 3.5 cun lateral to its lower border, into the depression that often shows as a visible dimple above the buttock.
