Location

On the back, 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of T8.

How to locate: With the patient prone, the line joining the lower angles of the scapulae marks T7; count down one spinous process to T8 and measure 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of its spinous process. Cross-check by counting up from L4 on the line joining the iliac crests.
