Front-Mu point of the Heart
Location
On the upper abdomen, on the anterior midline, 6 cun above the umbilicus.
Needling
Depth:
0.5–1.0 cun
Angle:
Oblique, directed inferiorly
⚠ Cautions: Do not needle deeply or upward — the liver and, in some patients, the xiphoid process and pericardium lie close by.
Functions
- Calms the spirit and regulates the Heart
- Harmonises the Stomach and descends rebellious qi
- Transforms phlegm and opens the orifices
Indications
Cardiac pain and palpitationsanxiety, insomnia and maniaepilepsyvomiting and acid regurgitationchest oppressiondifficulty swallowing
Clinical Notes
The Front-Mu of the Heart; tenderness here in a patient reporting palpitations or anxiety is a useful confirming sign.
