Location

On the lower back, 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of L3.

How to locate: With the patient prone, the line joining the highest points of the iliac crests usually crosses the L4 spinous process (this shifts with posture); count up one spinous process to L3. The point is 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the L3 spinous process.
