Description

Kong Xian Dan (Control Mucus Special Pill), from the San Yin Ji Yi Bing Zheng Fang Lun (Discussion of Illnesses, Patterns, and Formulas Related to the Unification of the Three Etiologies) by Chen Yan — a variation of Shi Zao Tang.

Presentation: Phlegm stagnation and water retention in the chest and diaphragm: sudden excruciating migrating pain in chest, back, neck, waist or even groin; lethargy, severe headache, cold painful hands and feet, temporary loss of taste, thick sticky sputum, rattling sputum in the throat at night, excess saliva.

Composition: Equal amounts of all three ingredients; no weights printed.

Preparation

Powder equal amounts, form water pills; 5-10 pills with mild ginger soup and food at bedtime, more for serious phlegm/qi excess. Today: water pills the size of mung beans (Lu Dou), 1-3g with warm water and food at bedtime.
