Dui Yao — Core Herb Pairs

The classical two-herb combinations at the heart of this formula, as recorded on the herbs' own pages — each pair has an action neither herb has alone.

Ai Ye艾叶 + Xiang Fu香附

Together they warm the uterus and disperse cold while regulating Liver qi, relieving lower abdominal pain from cold and qi stagnation.

Cold uterus with painful, irregular menstruation, leukorrhea or infertility.

Energetics dose-weighted

The formula's overall nature, taste balance and channel reach, weighted by each herb's dose. Classical formulas often pair warm and cool herbs on purpose, so a net figure summarises the mix — it doesn't describe every herb in it.

Nature

Cold Cool Neutral Warm Hot

Net slightly warm (+0.52)

From 100% of the weighed grams.

cold cool neutral warm hot

Grams by band: cold 9%, cool 9%, neutral 19%, warm 45%, hot 17%.

Small but decisive: Wu Zhu Yu 6g (hot, 9% of the grams), Rou Gui 5g (hot, 8% of the grams), Sheng Di Huang 6g (cold, 9% of the grams). Dose weighting nearly cancels a herb this small, but it may be what the formula is for.

Taste

pungent sweet sour bitter
  • pungent 36%
  • sweet 32%
  • sour 5%
  • bitter 28%

From 100% of the weighed grams.

Channels reached

  • Liver 91%
  • Spleen 73%
  • Kidney 44%
  • Heart 27%
  • Lung 19%
  • Stomach 9%

Share of the grams entering each channel, from 100% of the weighed grams.

Dose-weighted from each herb's recorded nature, taste and channels (missing values are left out, never counted as neutral). It describes the composition — it is not a recommendation.
