Overview

For a lay person:

Tennis elbow is pain on the outside of the elbow from overuse of the forearm muscles that extend the wrist. It hurts to grip, lift or twist.

For a trained medical person:

Lateral epicondylalgia, a tendinopathy of the common extensor origin (mainly extensor carpi radialis brevis). It is usually self-limiting; management includes load modification, eccentric exercise and bracing.

In Chinese medicine:

Flaws and Sionneau's textbook differentiates this condition as one pattern: Qi and blood deficiency with wind cold bi. Treatment follows the pattern a patient presents with, not the Western diagnosis alone.
