Overview

For a lay person:

Still's disease is a rare inflammatory condition causing daily high fevers, a pink rash that comes and goes, and joint pain. It can occur in children or adults.

For a trained medical person:

Systemic JIA or adult-onset Still's disease, with quotidian fever, evanescent rash, arthritis and very high ferritin; it carries a risk of macrophage activation syndrome. Treatment: corticosteroids and IL-1 or IL-6 blockade.

In Chinese medicine:

Flaws and Sionneau's textbook differentiates this condition as one pattern: Wind damp cold bi with upright qi deficiency. Treatment follows the pattern a patient presents with, not the Western diagnosis alone.

When to get help: Get urgent care for persistent high fever with confusion or bleeding.
