The vital substance and animating force of all physiological activity.

Overview

Qi is the fundamental substance constituting and sustaining the body. It warms, moves, transforms, holds (contains Blood and fluids), and protects (defends against external pathogens). Qi is in constant flow through the channels.

  • Deficiency → fatigue, weak voice, spontaneous sweating
  • Stagnation → distension, emotional constraint

Clinical Significance

Qi deficiency presents with fatigue and weak voice; Qi stagnation with distension and irritability; Qi sinking with prolapse.
