Location

On the dorsum of the hand, in the depression on the radial side proximal to the head of the second metacarpal bone — corresponding closely to LI3.

Needling

Depth: 0.5–1.0 cun

Angle: Perpendicular; or pricked to bleed for high fever in children

Bleeding technique: Pricking Da Bai to bleed with a three-edged needle is Tung's classical treatment for high fever in children.

Clinical Notes

With Ling Gu it forms the single most famous Dao Ma pair in the Tung system, needled on the side opposite the pain for sciatica.

Combinations Using This Point

Ling Gu and Da Bai

The best-known pairing in the Tung system — two needles on the opposite hand for sciatica, low back pain and hemiplegia.
