Location

On the palm, on the radial side of the first metacarpal bone, 1 cun distal to the wrist crease, in the thenar muscle.

Needling

Depth: 0.5–1.0 cun
Angle: Perpendicular

Functions

  • Descends Lung qi and relieves cough
  • Relieves pain of the back and scapula

Indications

Upper back and scapular paincough, asthma and bronchitisshoulder painpneumonia and chest paindifficulty breathing

Correspondence: Images the Lung and, through the hand-to-back correspondence, the scapular region.

Needled as a Dao Ma group with: T.22.02

Clinical Notes

Needled with Chong Xian as a two-needle Dao Ma. The pair is among the most reliable distal combinations in the whole system for upper-back and scapular pain, and is usually needled on the side opposite the pain.
