Location

On the neck, level with the tip of the laryngeal prominence, on the anterior border of sternocleidomastoid, where the carotid artery pulses.

Needling

  • Shallow needling only
  • Avoid blood vessels
Depth: 0.2–0.4 cun
Angle: Perpendicular, medial to the artery
⚠ Cautions: High-risk point. Palpate the carotid pulse and needle carefully to avoid it; never needle bilaterally at the same time, and avoid deep insertion.
