Meeting point of the Stomach and Gallbladder channels

Location

On the face, in the depression between the zygomatic arch and the mandibular notch, found with the mouth closed.

How to locate: The depression closes when the mouth opens — locate with the mouth shut, then needle.

Needling

Depth: 0.5–1.0 cun
Angle: Perpendicular

Functions

  • Benefits the ears and the jaw joint
  • Expels wind and relieves pain

Indications

Temporomandibular joint disorderstoothache of the upper jawdeafness, tinnitus and ear infectionsfacial paralysis and trigeminal neuralgia

Clinical Notes

The primary point for TMJ dysfunction. Needle with the mouth closed; the patient may then be asked to open and close to mobilise the joint.
