Before surgery

Location

On the anterior lower leg, about 2 cun below ST36, at the point of maximum tenderness on palpation.

Focks' Atlas of Acupuncture locates it on the right leg only, matching the side of the appendix.

How to locate: Find ST36 3 cun below ST35, one finger-breadth lateral to the anterior crest of the tibia; palpate down the Stomach channel towards ST37 for the most tender spot, usually about 2 cun below ST36.

Needling

Before surgery

Depth: 1.0–1.5 cun

Angle: Perpendicular, with strong stimulation

⚠ Cautions: Acute appendicitis is a surgical emergency. This point may be used for pain relief and as an adjunct, but must never replace urgent surgical assessment.

Clinical Notes

Like Dannangxue, a reflex point located by tenderness — usually exquisitely tender on the right in acute appendicitis.
