Location

On the lateral dorsum of the foot, distal to the anterior border of the lateral malleolus, posterior to the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone, in the depression below the cuboid bone.

Focks' Atlas of Acupuncture places it just proximal to the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal, in the depression between the calcaneus and the cuboid, while noting that some authors put it between the cuboid and the tuberosity.

How to locate: With the patient supine or seated, find the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal on the outer edge of the foot and slide a finger back from it; the point is in the depression just behind the tuberosity and below the cuboid, anterior and inferior to BL62.

Regional anatomy: Skin and subcutaneous tissue, then the origin of abductor digiti minimi, reaching the lateral surface of the cuboid bone.

BL63 and BL61 below the outer ankle — for heel pain, foot sprain, weak legs, headache and infantile convulsions.
