Location

On the buttock, 3 cun lateral to the midline, level with the second posterior sacral foramen.

How to locate: With the patient prone, find the level of the second posterior sacral foramen (level with the posterior superior iliac spine); the point is 3 cun lateral to the median sacral crest on that level, just lateral to the iliac spine.

Regional anatomy: Skin and subcutaneous tissue, then gluteus maximus and the underlying gluteus medius.
