Master Tung Ching Chang, Tung's Extraordinary Points.
Points
-
Upper; the principal point
-
Lower
Treatment Principle
Reach the face and teeth through the Shaoyang territory of the opposite lower leg.
Indications
Method
Needle both, perpendicular, 1.0 to 1.5 cun, on the leg opposite the painful side. Strong stimulation. Retain 30 minutes.
⚠ Cautions
Toothache is a dental problem. This pairing may relieve pain while dental treatment is arranged; it does not treat caries, abscess or infection, and a spreading facial swelling with fever needs urgent dental or medical care.
About
A dependable distal pairing for dental and facial pain, and one of the more commonly cited Tung combinations in Western practice.
Rationale
The points sit on Gallbladder-channel territory of the lateral leg, and the Shaoyang traverses the side of the head, the jaw and the ear. The contralateral application follows the general Tung rule for one-sided head and face disorders.
Clinical Notes
Effect on pain is often quick and marked, which makes it useful as a holding measure. Tell the patient plainly that it is analgesia, not treatment of the tooth.
