Botanical Description
Rubus lidforssii is a European bramble, one of the numerous apomictic microspecies belonging to the Rubus fruticosus aggregate (blackberries) in the family Rosaceae. It is a scrambling, woody-stemmed shrub whose long, arching biennial canes are armed with prickles and root where the tips touch the ground. The leaves are palmately compound, usually with three to five toothed leaflets that are green above and paler, often felted, beneath. Five-petalled white to pale-pink flowers are borne in branched clusters in summer, followed by aggregate fruits that ripen from green through red to glossy black, composed of many small juicy drupelets. As with other members of the aggregate, the species reproduces largely by apomixis, producing stable, geographically restricted forms; it grows in hedgerows, woodland edges, scrub and waysides in northern Europe.
