Botanical Description
Rubus langei Friderichsen ex Gelert is a European bramble (blackberry) of the rose family (Rosaceae), one of the very many apomictic microspecies that make up the Rubus fruticosus aggregate. Like other agg. brambles it is a scrambling, woody-stemmed shrub with biennial, arching and prickly canes that root at the tips. The leaves are palmately compound, usually with three to five toothed leaflets that are green above and paler-hairy beneath, and the stems and leaf-stalks bear curved prickles. Clusters of white to pale-pink five-petalled flowers are produced in summer, followed in autumn by the familiar black, juicy aggregate fruits of one-seeded drupelets. It occurs in the temperate brambleflora of central and northern Europe (including the Danish-German region), growing in woodland edges, hedgerows, scrub and disturbed ground.
