Botanical Description

Dian Di Mei (点地梅) is the whole herb of Androsace umbellata (Lour.) Merr. (Primulaceae), a small overwintering annual forming a flat basal rosette. The many long-stalked leaves are rounded to broadly ovate, 0.5-2 cm across, with shallowly toothed margins and fine white hairs. In spring several slender, leafless scapes rise 3-15 cm and carry an umbel of small white, five-lobed flowers with a yellow eye, followed by tiny globose capsules. It grows in open grassland, roadsides and moist meadows throughout China and much of East and Southeast Asia. The plant is collected in spring and summer and used to clear heat, relieve toxicity, reduce swelling, and ease sore throat and pain.
