A pathological accumulation of congealed fluids.

Overview

Phlegm forms when fluid metabolism fails (often Spleen/Kidney deficiency). "Substantial" Phlegm affects the Lungs; "non-substantial" Phlegm lodges in the channels and can mist the Heart orifices.

Clinical Significance

Phlegm → cough with sputum, nodules/lumps, dizziness, a greasy tongue coat, mental confusion (Phlegm misting the Heart).
